Death Q&A Live in Reality!

Popular Virtual Reality Event to Stream on YouTube

Death Q&A first went live in April, 2020 as a virtual event in AltspaceVR. It was right after Covid began changing everything. People needed a place to talk about what was happening to mortality.

On December 1, 2021, Death Q&A will go live as an online event on Zoom and Youtube, 1pm eastern time

About 30 or more people keep showing up every week for the virtual event about death. Regulars and new folks.

We expect that the new online version will allow more people to participate. As we learn how the extended access influences the event, we will adapt.

Death Q&A is built on people talking about things they can’t usually talk about. Maybe because no one wants to listen. Maybe because it’s too uncomfortable to talk about with people we’re with every day. There are different wrinkles for everyone.

When they find a space like ours, people often say, ‘well I don’t usually talk in public like this, but …’

Can we create that kind of space in a different medium?

I doubt that any space is just right for everyone, but a live video event could provide the freedom for at least some people to bring up stuff they’re not able to otherwise.

Death Q&A isn’t really a Q&A. It’s also not therapy for death anxiety disorder. It’s a couple of co-hosts letting people say things they need some kind of permission to say. People even like to be called on sometimes, because then they didn’t initiate the process.

That’s all. No one is cured.

Some people feel a little better because of what they said out loud in front of respectful strangers.

It also helps to hear what other people have inside them and it’s a rare thing when they let us see it. It takes us out of our own little self for just a bit.

Death Q&A lets us share our life and see other people’s life in a way we don’t usually get a chance to. Opening up more access to that is exciting and necessarily uncertain.
