Are we all one or not?
We might be deeply connected in some ways we don’t quite understand, but we are also deeply disconnected at the same time and the disconnect part feels like it’s getting stronger.
Supposedly we are all citizens in a new global village and we know that little things anywhere can affect everyone everywhere.
That’s one kind of connection — and when it brings us great food and great music from all over the world it’s a good thing.
When it brings us pandemics it’s not.
I think most of us have figured out at this point that the global village isn’t about real human connection — it’s about collapsing us all into one integrated addressable Market.
The Market makes it clear that our value as humans is defined by our role as consumers and producers. It’s not just us, it’s all time and space. Your spare room has no value until it is monetized on Airbnb.
Value = Contributing-to-the-Economy is the primary the operating principle around which we are organized socially. It is not possible to opt out of the situation entirely, it is too all-pervasive. It has affected the climate everywhere. It is in the air we breathe.
